Practice Policies
The following information is provided to help clarify how this practice operates and what you can expect when beginning therapy.
-
Therapy begins with a free 20-minute consultation to determine whether working together feels like a good fit.
If we decide to proceed, you will receive intake and consent forms through the secure client portal before your first session. A therapeutic relationship begins only after these forms are completed, and we mutually agree to begin ongoing work together.
Information on this website is for general informational purposes and does not constitute psychotherapy or establish a therapeutic relationship.
-
Confidentiality is a central part of psychotherapy. Information shared in sessions is kept private, with a few legal and ethical exceptions required by Ontario law and professional standards.
These limits include situations involving:
risk of serious harm to yourself
risk of harm to another person
risk of harm to a child or vulnerable person
disclosure of abuse by a regulated health professional
court order or subpoena
These limits and their implications will be reviewed in detail within your consent form and during our initial sessions.
-
Clinical notes and relevant documentation are securely stored in accordance with professional and legal standards in Ontario. Records are kept confidential and retained for the period required by regulatory guidelines.
You may request access to your records in accordance with applicable privacy legislation.
-
All sessions are currently offered virtually to clients located in Ontario.
Virtual therapy is conducted through secure, privacy-compliant video platforms. While every effort is made to protect confidentiality, no electronic system can guarantee complete security. Clients are encouraged to attend sessions from a private, quiet location where they feel comfortable speaking openly.
Further details about virtual therapy consent will be included in your intake and consent documents.
-
Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment.
Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed sessions, are charged at the full session fee. This policy supports the sustainability of a small, dedicated practice and protects time reserved for each client.
-
Email is used for scheduling and administrative purposes only and is not a confidential or therapeutic space.
If additional support is needed between sessions, we can discuss scheduling an additional appointment when possible. This practice does not provide crisis or emergency services.
-
To protect confidentiality and the therapeutic relationship:
I do not accept friend or follow requests from current or former clients on personal social media accounts
I do not engage in therapeutic conversations via social media or text
If we encounter one another in public, I will follow your lead regarding acknowledgement and will discuss it in the orientation session.
-
As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), I provide psychotherapy services but do not provide formal psychiatric diagnoses or emergency mental health care. If you require diagnostic assessment, crisis support, or specialized services outside my scope of practice, I will support you in identifying appropriate resources.
If at any time I believe another form of support or a different provider may better meet your needs, I will discuss this with you and, when appropriate, offer referral options.
-
This practice does not provide crisis or emergency services.
If you are in immediate distress or require urgent mental health support, please contact local emergency services or a crisis line in your area. If you are an existing client experiencing increased distress, you are welcome to email to request an additional session when possible.
